In 1953, 26-year-old Arthur Rutenberg left his appliance sales job in Chicago and moved to sunny Florida, where he invested in ten homesites in the town of Clearwater. Right from the beginning, Arthur built his business upon the four cornerstones he believed were absolutely essential: responsibility, service, craftsmanship, and design.

His vision paid off. By consistently demonstrating his interest in providing homebuyers with a streamlined, honest experience coupled with his commitment to bringing their dreams to life through fully customizable floor plans, AR Homes (then called Arthur Rutenberg Homes) rose to become the largest homebuilder in the country in 1973. In 1978, AR Homes brought a team of top-quality home builders into the fold who lived and worked by the same exemplary standards Arthur did.

In 1986, Professional Builder magazine awarded Arthur the prestigious National Builder of the Year award and in 2017, the year Arthur passed away, he was inducted into the National Housing Hall of Fame.
