A native of Aruba, Mark offers a wealth of playing and coaching experience at the International Tennis Federation level, as well teaching a number of top ITF, state and nationally ranked players. One of Mark’s latest players to achieve amateur success is recent Elon University signee Kyle Frankel, who played for Mark during his coaching tenure at Montverde Academy.
Frankel, who committed to Elon University last December, will join the elite NCAA Division II team for the 2017-18 season after experiencing tremendous success at the junior tennis level. Among Frankel’s junior highlights were winning the 2016 Jamaica ITF Championship and the 2016 TIHTA Aruba G4 ITF Championship without losing a set. He also captured back-to-back TIHTA Aruba doubles titles from 2015-16.
Prior to joining Montverde Academy, Mark spent 10 years as a tennis pro at Aruba’s Eagle International Tennis Club, a private club with six tennis courts and other athletic facilities, as well as stints with the nearby Marriott and Ritz-Carlton resorts. As a junior player, Mark was ranked as high as No. 221 in singles and No. 230 in doubles.
Perhaps his career highlight was playing against Andy Roddick as a teenager in Costa Rica when Roddick was the world’s No. 1-ranked junior player. Later, Mark and Roddick nearly met again as both players made their ITF junior debuts at the Sugar Bowl event in New Orleans. “He was top 20 at the time and he got in the main draw but I lost in the first round,” recalls Mark, whose wife is from Clermont. “You could tell he was going to be successful because he was already playing at a different level.”
This former NCAA Division II standout is one of the newest members to the Bella Collina tennis program. A certified member of the United States Professional Tennis Association, Henry brings to Bella Collina a wide-ranging coaching background, comprising extensive experience in developing junior tennis players and programs as well as top collegiate and amateur players.
Prior to joining Bella Collina, Henry was an assistant coach at Albright (Pa.) College and spent nearly four years running the City of Reading (Pa.) tennis program, which the USTA recognized in 2011 as one of its National Junior Tennis Programs of the year. Henry has coached numerous top junior tennis players, including Montverde Academy graduate and Rollins College player Francesco Racanelli, formerly one of the top-ranked under-16 players in Venezuela.
Henry played three seasons for the Millersville (Pa.) University tennis team, tying for the team lead in singles victories with 13 his senior year. He led the team in singles wins the previous year with nine, earning All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference honors. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management.
